  • EJournals
    • Search the A-Z listing alphabetically, by title, or by subject to identify which databases to use. Access using your LSE username and password.
    • The subject listing is under Government, Law and Social Policy.

Finding journal articles

Journal articles are not generally indexed on the Library Catalogue|, so if you have a journal citation, look for the journal in which the article was published.

Researching a topic will require our electronic resources. Do not assume a simple Google search will find all articles - the Library provides powerful databases. Our databases cover materials from a wide range of publishers so can give you more information than you will retrieve from an individual publisher's ejournal site. Databases can also include information on book reviews, book chapters, grey literature, government reports, theses etc.

Some databases will link to the full text of article - look out for the LSE Article Finder   articlefinder  but some will give you bibliographic details only.

  • Cross Searcher for LSE staff and students searches across the content of selected databases. This can be used to find journal articles, and where available, links through to the full text, using the LSE article finder:  articlefinder
NB. Not all resources for legal topics are available via Cross Searcher.
Westlaw UK  and Lexis Library will need to be searched separately.
  • There is extensive full text coverage of current law journals via Westlaw UK (select Services then Westlaw International for non-UK materials) and Lexis Library (select Sources for separate jurisdictions).
  • Hein Online (US law journal archives), and JSTOR (major social science journals archive) include large backsets of many titles.
  • For the widest research see a full list of Law Databases.

Please note that the majority our online legal resources are available to current LSE staff and students only. If you are not a member of LSE, please check before you visit that you can access the resources that you require.
