Finding journal articles

Articles are not indexed on the Library catalogue, so look for the journal in which the article was published. Electronic databases index journal articles. These are listed on the Library Catalogue.

The Electronic Resources page  |contains information on all of the electronic resources to which the Library has access.

The Library provides a searching service for LSE staff and students called Cross Searcher| that searches the content of a number of selected databases and resources. This can be used to find journal articles, and where available, links through to the full text, using the LSE article finder orange button:   articlefinder

  • All databases, including those in Cross Searcher and many more, are listed on the Library Catalogue
  • There are also many web resources that are listed here using the Library's Delicious account.
  • A full list of E-journals available from LSE is available on the Ejournals page
  • LSE Staff and students will need to use their LSE username and password to access these

Some of the most useful indexes for journal articles for  management subjects  include

  • EBSCO BUSINESS SOURCE PREMIER - a database covering several thousand business, management and economics journals. Many of these articles are full text. Other resources include current company  and industry profiles.
  • EMERALD MANAGMENT E- JOURNALS - a database of references to articles taken from around 450 top management and business journals. The coverage is international but with a UK bias. Subjects covered include accounting and finance, management, information management, marketing and hospitality.
  • ECONLIT -(1969-) Indexes economics journals and includes abstracts.It is on the same platform as EBSCO BSC so can be searched simultaneously.
  • PSYCARTICLES -  a database of full text journal articles published by the American Psychological Association. Also on the EBSCO platform.
  • ACM DIGITAL LIBRARY - The Digital Library of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) offers access to the full text of articles published in ACM journals from 1985 onwards. Titles offered include: Computing Surveys, the Journal of The ACM and Transactions on Computer Systems, Transactions on Information Systems and Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems. Also accessible in the Digital Library are ACM conference proceedings, citations and bibliographies relating to computing and information systems. Other features are archives of messages from relevant email discussion groups and details of forthcoming conferences.  
  • IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY DIGITAL LIBRARY - This gives access to the full text of 19 IEEE magazines and transactions, including the Annals of the history of computing, Computer magazine, Internet computing, Multimedia, Transactions on computers and Transactions on computing. In addition you can search over 500 conference proceedings.
  • INTERNATIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES - (1951-) indexes a wide range of social science journals.
  • SOCIAL SCIENCE CITATION INDEX - (1956-)
    Indexes social science journals and includes citation references. 
  • MATHSCINET - from the American Mathematical Society. 
  • INFORMS ONLINE  - full text articles and conference reports from the Institute of Operations Research and Management Sciences based in the USA
  • SCOPUS – a database covering 18,000 titles in sciences and social sciences.
