Other electronic resources

LSE Research Online| is a collection of research (including working papers, journal articles and book chapters written by LSE staff. It often contains content which is full text and freely available and it can be searched by department, subject or author.

Data

The Library holds a large collection of data of interest to economists. Some of this is in print in the 'Current statistics collection' on the First Floor of the Library. It is published by governments and IGOs. All publications are on the Library catalogue. The Data Library| available to LSE staff and students has a selection of electronic  resources for economics.  Countrydata

 The Economist Intelligent Unit publishes country information such as GDP – EIU databases are  EIU country data|, EIU Country reports|, EIU Market Indicators and Forecasts|.

Data from intergovernmental organisations such as the International Monetary Fund  include the IMF country reports,| and IMF Direction of Trade Statistics|. These resources are available for LSE staff and students and require registration with the Economic and Social Data Library Service (login via the UK Federation).

SOURCEOECD| contains online publications and statistics from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.  For reports and statistics from other IGOs search on the Library catalogue under the name of the organization.

Company information

Company financial data is available from databases such as  ORBIS|  for company information worldwide and Proquest Historical Annual reports|

There are some free web sites for company information such  as CAROL|  and HEMSCOTT| (for company reports) and Companies House,| and SCORE| - a catalogue of company reports

GMID (Global  Market Information Database)| contains market research information worldwide.

Some data resources are only available from terminals on the First Floor of the Library. Ask at the Help Desk for assistance. These services are only available for LSE staff and students.

DATASTREAM - Online service offering financial and economic data, including exchange rates, bond data, stock market indices, interest rates and economic indices worldwide. Includes historical data.

BLOOMBERG - a source of financial information, stocks and shares.

BOARDEX - for tracing biographic information of business personal



Newspapers

NEXIS| UK (LSE staff and students only) Full text of a wide range of UK and some non-UK newspapers (mostly from 1980s onwards) as well as a number of business related databases.

For historical news coverage there is the TIMES DIGITAL ARCHIVE 1785-1985.| Older runs of the Financial Times are on microfilm and fetched on request. The index is in the Reference Collection at ZHG34

The Library also has the Economist Historical Archive  1843- 2003| online and the Financial Times historical archive 1888-2006|.

Law resources

The Library holds law reports and journals in print. For electronic access see Westlaw UK.| This contains legal cases online and legal journals.

For European Union law see EUR-LEX| - a free database of European Union legislation including treaties, directives, and Commission documents. For general information about European labour relations policy see the main European Commission web site EUROPA.|

Theses

Index to theses| - UK and Irish PhD theses. (Abstracts only) 

Dissertations and theses| - USA and Canadian PhD theses. Has abstracts and some full text.

Conference papers

ZETOC| - Index to conference papers 1992- . No full-text, simply tells you where to find the paper concerned eg: in a book or journal. 

ISI Proceedings| - covers 1990- . 

Free Web resources for employment relations

EIROnline| European Industrial Relations Observatory Online a database maintained by the European Foundation for Improvement of Working and Living Conditions. It contains news items and comparative studies

International Labour Organisation| The ILO is an agency of the United Nations which promotes labour rights worldwide. Its web site provides access to International Labour standards, statistics, searchable databases of publications and news on labour law and conditions worldwide

Institute For Employment Research| The Institute for Employment Research is based at the University of Warwick. Its web page gives information on research projects, publications and conferences sponsored by the Institute. Areas covered include: labour market assessments, household and employer surveys.

ICFTU| The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions is a confederation of national trade union bodies. Its web site provides information on campaigns to end child labour, defend trade unionists rights and achieve equal pay for women. It also includes access to some of its annual reports, fact finding missions and trade union news world wide.

TUC| web site of the Trades Union Congress. Contains news items and historical material which has been published online

The Work Foundation| - a not-for-profit organisation that brings both sides of working organisations together.

WWW Virtual Library: Statistics| - comprehensive listing of Internet sites.

MathWorld| - a Mathematics encyclopedia on the Web (includes sections on Statistics).
