Finding Books

The place to start is the Library Catalogue.| It includes details of both printed and electronic materials held by the Library. 

Top Tips

• Choose the advanced search option to restrict your search to a title.
• Note down the classmark of the items you need. In particular note if they are located in the Course collection or Main collection. You can check locations and  loan entitlements in our online guides.
• Reserve items which are already on loan.
• Find out how to search the catalogue effectively by watching our short video tutorial.

Here are some key classmarks for media and communication. However, note that due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject relevant books may also be found in the sociology, politics and economics sections of the Library.

EBooks

The library is increasing purchasing full text ebooks which you can download and read.

• To find out if a title is available as an ebook search for it on the main LSE Library catalogue. Not ethat there are often separate records for printed and eversions. Then choose the option click here for full text.
• Note that many suppliers impose strict limits on downloading and printing from ebooks.  Always follow these and heed any online warning messages as you could become locked out! However you can always read the whole text online.

Key ebook collections.

• Cambridge Books Online - free access to 100s of titles from the leading academic press coverign all subject areas.
• Oxford reference online - access English and foreign language dictionaries
• OECD ILibrary - read the full text of publications from the OECD these include Information Technology Outlook.
• ACLS Humanities E-book - includes 100s of titles from American publishers including some coverage of media and communication topics.
• Oxford Handbooks series. These include many full texts titles covering information technology. For example the Oxford Handbook of Information and communication technology
