Page Numbers:

Page numbering in a text / page based document could be altered up by the addition of a cover sheet or front page by either an author or repository manager. However, there are two ways of avoiding this potential problem:

1. Create the cover sheet as a separate document, and then use the merge function found in some PDF creators, such as Adobe Acrobat, to combine the coversheet with the original document as the PDF is created. This will retain the numbering displayed in the footer of the original document.

2. When adding a cover sheet into the document file, if you wish the page numbering of the document to start after the front page or cover sheet, use the page numbers function to start the numbering at 0 (example taken from Word 2003):
