Welcome

In July 2007 the Version Identification Framework (VIF) project began working towards creating a framework for the identification of versions of objects in digital repositories. The project will provide a common infrastructure for the naming and understanding of issues relating to versions of scholarly works. Continuing from the work of the VERSIONS project and River Study, and funded by JISC under its Repositories and Preservation Programme, the project is expected to run until April 2008 concluding with the dissemination of the Version Identification Framework to the JISC and wider digital repository communities.

The framework will be developed using the results of an online survey of researchers, teachers and learners and other stakeholders about current use of digital objects and about the versioning questions that arise in their management, storage, and use. The survey will cover all subject areas and a wide range of institutions, and will be led by project partners at University of Leeds.
