Detailed descriptions of each can be found on the main accommodation web pages|. In all of them there will be a varied mix of students, undergraduate and postgraduate, home and overseas, men and women. In 2008 approximately 56% of the places were allocated to new undergraduates with approximately 35% of these placed in shared rooms. In each residence there is an elected student committee that organises regular events, such as DVD evenings, quizzes and term parties.
The University of London also has intercollegiate halls which provide LSE with a quota of study bedrooms in each. There are seven mixed halls: Commonwealth Hall, Hughes-Parry Hall, International Hall, Nutford House, College Hall, Canterbury Hall and Connaught Hall. Lillian Penson accepts postgraduate students only. Summary information is given on the table linked above, and detailed information on the accommodation web pages|.
For students accompanied by a spouse or partner, the School has some accommodation available in the Anson Road flats located near Tufnell Park, north London.
Private accommodation
Both the LSE and the University of London accommodation offices offer a comprehensive support service to students seeking housing in the private sector. This might be a room in a family house, a studio/flat or a share in a flat or house.
For further information and advice about the services offered see Accommodation for students|.
Unlike many other European cities, central London mostly contains offices and shops. It is not uncommon to spend up to 45 minutes travelling between the School and private accommodation.
