Bankside House

Completed in 1996, Bankside House is the largest hall of residence, housing up to 617 men and women, in 527 single and 45 twin rooms.

Over 250 rooms have private shower/toilet facilities (including all twin rooms), the rest sharing a shower/toilet suite with just one other room.

Please note that there are limited self-catering facilities on some floors available to a small number of graduate students.

Bankside House is situated within a 25 minute walk of the School on the South Bank of the river Thames near to the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and just behind the Tate Modern art gallery.

Meals

For 2012/13 academic year, the price of the accommodation will include 7 meals. The restaurant offers a varietey of dishes, which always include vegetarian, halal and kosher options. 

 

Snack points are located on most of the floors throughout Bankside.  These points are shared between all residents and will generally contain a fridge/freezer; stove and grill; a microwave; an electric kettle; and a toaster. Students are expected to provide their own pots, pans, cutlery and crockery. The facilities will only be available from 24 September. ALL snack points are locked overnight from 10:00pm to 7:00am. Please note the contents of these points are up for consideration and may be changed prior to the commencement of the new academic year.

Facilities

Bankside House piano roomThe extensive lower ground floor houses a student bar and games room, as well as quiet study, table tennis and TV rooms.

Each bedroom has a data link to the School network and there is a computer suite with a number of workstations and a printer. For more details on using the IT facilities, please see:  Using your own computer|

Also available is an inexpensive, coin-operated laundry and ironing room.

The building features good disabled access.

There are six TV/lounges.

Cleaning and bed linen

Bankside House student on her bedStudents are responsible for keeping their own rooms tidy.
Students are able to pre–book a cleaning service, for more information and rates please check with reception. The hall provides pillows, mattresses and duvets but residents will have to supply and launder their own bed linen and towels.

Students are responsible for the cleaning of their ensuite and shared bathrooms. Kitchens and all communal spaces are cleaned regularly by the residence staff.

 

Vacation periods

Bankside House student at receptionStudents living in Bankside have a 40 week contract which covers the Christmas and Easter vacations. Students will not be able to remain in Bankside during the summer vacation. Those residents with a valid academic reason for remaining in London throughout the summer may be offered accommodation in another residence.

Couples

A limited number of couples are accommodated in twin en-suite rooms in Bankside House.

  • Single en suite - up to £196.60 per week
  • Single shared bathroom - £179.80 per week
  • Twin en suite - up to £132.90 per week
  • Common Room Fee - £10 per term
