Providing LSE students with homes that are positive places to live and study, and that offer comfortable, modern facilities in central London means that sometimes, refurbishment and maintenance works are run during the academic year.
This page is updated monthly. Projects and schedules sometimes change at short notice, but we're aiming to keep the information on this page as accurate as possible.
Please use this information as an indication of planned work rather than as a detailed plan. Before you apply for a place in halls, please read and consider this information carefully, as it might affect your preferred hall.
Bankside House planned works
Heating supply modifications. Work has now been completed in the rooms but there may be some minimal disruption going forward due to work that needs to be done in the riser cupboards. The work will involve some drilling but it should not be extensive, although the contractors may have to drill through metal on occasions, which will be noisy.
We will have a much better energy efficient heating system once this project is completed.
Starting in October 2015 until the end of Michaelmas term. work will take place on the lighting in the corridors/stairwells. Please be careful when exiting your room, as contractors will be on ladders in the corridors and running cabling, there will also be minimal drilling.
Butler's Wharf Residence planned works
Installation of Lighting in Stairwells/Corridors – Advanced Warning/Delayed. Installation of lighting in stairwells & corridors in BW and will take approximately 15 weeks. The work will involve mostly cabling but a very minimal amount of drilling will also take place. No access is required to flats or rooms but technicians will need regular access to the reiser cupboards between flats. You will also need to be careful when exiting flats as there may be electricians working on ladders.
Balcony repairs. During 2016/17 repairs to the balcony will take place to court 4 at Butler's Wharf. This work could potentially be quite noisy and that area of the building will be covered in scaffolding.
Carr-Saunders Hall planned works
The fourth floor at Carr-Saunders Residence is currently being refurbished and scheduled for completion in Easter 2016. There is likely to be noise disruption from the work between 9:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday throughout the first two academic terms. This will be on an intermittent basis, but can be heard throughout the building. Occasional weekend work might be required to keep on top of the project finish date.
The second and third floors at Carr-Saunders Residence will be completely refurbished from the middle of August 2016 through to March 2017. There is likely to be noise disruption from the work between 9:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday throughout the first two academic terms. This will be on an intermittent basis, but can be heard throughout the building. Weekend work on a Saturday between 10:30am – 2:30pm will be required.
We will endeavour to keep our residents informed throughout, to ensure their safety.
Grosvenor House planned works
Currently no scheduled works at Grosvenor House.
High Holborn Residence planned works
The fifth and sixth floors at High Holborn Residence will be completely refurbished for the middle of August 2016 through to March 2017. There is likely to be noise disruption from the work between 9:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday throughout the first academic term. This will be on an intermittent basis, but can be heard throughout the building. High Holborn has a common room/ study area that can be used during these times. Occasional weekend work might be required to keep on top of the project finish date.
Lilian Knowles House planned works
There are major building works on a nearby site (located on Crispin Street, Brushfield Street, Commercial Street and White’s Row) which will be ongoing until late 2017. The construction company have advised that the work with the highest noise impact is scheduled for completion in Spring 2016. Rooms located in the part of Lilian Knowles Hall that overlook this site will be impacted by significant noise while this work is underway. Work is scheduled to take place only within the hours of 8:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and 8:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays.
Northumberland House planned works
Currently no scheduled works at Northumberland House.
Passfield Hall planned works
We'll refresh the decorative fabric of the bathrooms throughout the year. This means that your nearest bathroom may be closed for a couple of days. Should this be the case, we ask you to use the next available bathroom on your floor.
Rosebery Hall planned works
From May 2016 to the end of September 2016 the boilers at Rosebery will be changed. During this period residents may experience shortage of water supply for brief periods of time and some noise during the day. Advance notification of such works will be provided to residents once exact dates are confirmed. There will be two hot water generators in the car park to supply Rosebery and Myddleton whilst the new boilers are fitted. During 2016 bathrooms in Myddelton Wing are being converted to showers. There are many other convenient showers and toilets that can be used whilst the works are being completed.
Sidney Webb House planned works
A building site is currently in place on Tabard Street opposite Sidney Webb House. The extent and expected end date of the works has not yet been confirmed by the local authority, however notices on equipment specify that the equipment will be in place until September 2016 (approximately) . Working hours are from 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday) and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. The works will only affect residents on that particular side of the building, which is blocks D, E and F. Residdents in rooms facing the street will be more affected than those whose room face Tabbard Street.
UNITE Stratford ONE planned works
Currently no information.
urbanest King’s Cross planned works
Currently no scheduled works at urbanest King's Cross.
The King’s Cross area continues to be developed however, the facilities and services at urbanest King's Cross will not be affected during this time.
