Providing LSE students with residences that are positive places to study and live and that offer comfortable, modern-standard facilities in central London locations means that, from time-to-time, refurbishment and maintenance programmes are run during the academic year.
Projects and schedules sometimes change at short notice, but we're aiming to keep the information on this page as accurate as possible. Please use this as an indication of planned work rather than a detailed plan. To check when the content was last updated, please see the date on the bottom of this page.
Before you make your application for accommodation, you should read the following information carefully.
Bankside House
Various programmes have now been completed and there are currently no upcoming works.
.
Butlers Wharf
Refurbishment of bath- and shower rooms in Court Three. To minimise disruption, these will be carried out at different times, so that in each flat either the shower or bathroom is available to use.
We have completed our trial kitchen refit and will now extend the programme out to a further eight kitchens within the residence.
This will be an ongoing schedule and will mean that shared kitchens will be out of use for two weeks at a time.
To minimise disruption, access to another kitchen will be given during this period. Whilst some disruption will be inevitable, it will mean that many of the residents will be able to enjoy new facilities during their stay in the residence.
External roof repairs, particularly to the balcony soffits need to be carried out. This work has been deemed urgent. Further details will be communicated to the residents once the scope of the work has been completed
Carr Saunders
Carr-Saunders has planned refurbishment work throughout the residence, running throughout the year.
The scope of this work will include all the showers in Fitzroy and the kitchens.
Refurbishment works, at various stages, can involve noise mainly from drilling. Noisy work will not start till after 9am and finish by 5pm.
Grosvenor House
During the second half of June 2012, Grosvenor House windows are being checked and any missing window restrictors will be replaced.
High Holborn
Holborn has some minor work that needs to be completed in June 2012. On the mezzanine and first floors, fire detector heads in bedrooms will be replaced along with Salto door locks.
High Holborn has planned refurbishment work on the eleventh floor, which is planned to run from August 2012 until the end of the lent term in 2013. This is part of an extensive refurbishment programme at High Holborn and will be the fourth year out of a twelve year program.
This will affect students applying for accommodation for the academic year 2012/2013 and so should be taken into consideration by potential applicants.
The scope of this work will include all the bedrooms on the eleventh floor, the kitchens and some of the showers and WCs.
Some residents offered accommodation on the eleventh floor will be required to move from their unrefurbished bedrooms to a newly refurbished bedroom.
Refurbishment works, at various stages, can involve noise, mainly from drilling and removal of existing materials. Noise does travel through the building and residents on floors 10 and 9 are likely to be affected by this work.
Noisy work will not start before 9.30am and finish by 5pm. High Holborn is fortunate to have the ground floor lounge which is available for study space should you need a quiet space.
All contractors should be identified clearly with an LSE badge/lanyard. The contractors involved will be on site from 8am and finish at 5pm, Monday to Saturday only. Weekend work will be avoided.

Northumberland House
From 6 to 29 June 2012, access to bedrooms on floors 4 to 7 will be required for TRV valve replacement. Work will take around 10 to 15 minutes per room.
Northumberland House has various minor works planned during 2012.
This includes corridor flooring, kitchen flooring, corridor lighting and radiator valve replacements.
Access to all student bedrooms will be required during the Summer term to work on the radiators. Disruption will be minimal. This work is best carried out when the heating system is not in use.
There are likely to be occasions where kitchen access is restricted due to replacement of flooring.
Passfield Hall
Limited refurbishment works are currently designated for Passfield.
We are hoping to trail a kitchen refit sometime during the year – the scope of which will be communicated at a later date.
Flooring replacement on two further floors is planned for September 2012, completion expected prior to the start of term, to keep disruption to a minimum.
Rosebery Hall
Work will take place sometime next Spring, weather permitting, on repairing the garden decking. Further work needs undertaking to establish the severity of the problem.
