PhD student in Information Systems and Innovation
Biography
Carla M. Bonina is PhD Candidate in the Information Systems and Innovation Group, Department of Management. She holds a BA in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and an MA in Public Administration and Public Policy from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City. Before joining the LSE, and as part of the Telecom-CIDE research programme, she led several research projects mainly related to telecoms regulation, organizational aspects of innovations in the public sector, and the use of technology for fostering development. Some of these projects resulted in publications, such as the chapter in the Handbook of Mobile Communication Studies, edited by James Katz and published by the MIT Press in 2007. She has also extensive experience in research projects led by international bodies, such as the World Bank, the IDRC and more recently, the OECD, in the area of telecoms and e-government.
Carla has been scholarship and awards recipient of various organizations such as the Alban Programme of the European Union, the LSE and other Latin American bodies.
Carla enjoys taking part in seminars and inspiring discussions, and she has presented her work in several academic conferences and PhD meetings. From June 2007 to January 2009, Carla chaired a series of seminars called the Information Systems Research Forum (ISRF) at the LSE, for which she also obtained financial support from the LSE Annual Fund. She is also a member of Sandbox, a global community of hand-selected young achievers.
Research Interests
Thesis: 'Organizing technology in government: on public value, modernisation reforms and the re-organisation of the state'
Carla's main research interests are the adoption of information systems in public organisations (e-government) and public value creation. In addition, she is also interested in broader areas of internet policy and its organisational and social impacts, such as open government, digital identity management, telecoms regulation and ICT for development.
