Samer Abdelnour

PhD student in Management

Biography

Using institutional and entrepreneurial theory, my thesis examines postwar interventions for reintegrating former combatants in Sudan. This fits into my overall research agenda, which seeks to combine organisational institutionalism and collective enterprise perspectives to examine humanitarian and development interventions. In particular, I am interested in interventions targeting displaced and marginalised communities as well as ex-combatants. Since 2005, I have engaged numerous research projects across Sudan, including the Blue Nile and Darfur, and also Southern Sudan.

My teaching experience includes two courses in LSE's 2011 Summer School, 'Foundations of Management' and 'Leadership in Organisations'. In addition, in 2009 I co-created and delivered a course titled 'Hot Emerging Economies' at the Rotterdam School of Management. This course explored the role of business, organisations, and poverty in emerging and developing contexts.

In addition to my affiliation in the Department of Management, I am a member of the Innovation Co-Creation Lab| and LSE Conflict Research Group|, and an affiliate of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. My formal education consists of an undergraduate degree in Management and Economics from the University of Toronto, and a Master in Environmental Studies from York University.
