PhD student in Employment Relations and Organisational Behaviour
Biography
Prior to commencing his doctoral research, Stephen had gained over eight years work experience, specialising in human resource management (HRM), and learning and development (L&D), within the health, space, and environment industries. Specifically, he has been responsible for change management and organisational development programmes, management and leadership development, talent management and succession planning, as well as having generalist HRM and L&D responsibilities.
Stephen attained an MSc in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management from the School in 2001, gaining a distinction for his dissertation which examined the effect of an organisational change programme within the BBC, on employees' attitudes and behaviours. Prior to this he attained a BA (Hons) in Combined Social Sciences (History, Classics and Sociology) from Durham University in 1998.
Stephen is also a chartered member (MCIPD) of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and is a qualified practitioner of the Myers Briggs (MBTI) step 1 psychometric instrument.
Research interests
Stephen's research interests concern the relationship between the employee and the organisation, and how organisational support can affect employees' self-esteem in the workplace. Specific areas of interest include:
