Our department is involved in a wide variety of research activities and we are always seeking to develop new collaborative research networks with colleagues in the UK and overseas.
Our research interests encompass print, radio, television, computer and telecommunication-based technologies and media, and their convergence especially around internet services. They address industrial, political, and economic issues as well as a wider social agenda. The convergence of industries, markets, cultures and user practices reinforces the need for imaginative research that cuts across the social sciences and the humanities.
In research, our goals are to:

Our department is also home to the media think-tank POLIS|, directed by Charlie Beckett|. POLIS is the leading UK forum for debate and research into contemporary media, hosting high-profile events for journalists, activists, politicians and academics.
