Research Fellow
I completed my PhD project at the Institute of Social Psychology of London School of Economics. My thesis entitled ‘Social Values in Context: A Study of the European Knowledge Society’ looked at how social values interplay with processes of economic development. In particular, I investigated the nature and role of values within the context of the knowledge society and how these shape employment trends and the meaning of work and good life in Europe. My fascination with social values extends to particular values such as openness to diversity and change, security, trust and social solidarity and how these relate to identity, citizenship, community engagement and participation in the public sphere. I retain a strong research interest in the areas of value dilemmas and value pluralism, and how these relate to leadership, creativity, work authenticity, social well-being and public perceptions of health, science and technology.
I currently conduct research with Nicole Kronberger and George Gaskell on the role of methodologies in the study of social values and how these inform policy governance of science and technology in the EU (FP7: ‘The Landscape and Isobars of European Values’ |). As a continuation of my PhD work, I work with LSE colleagues on intergenerational value differences and their role in social change and cultural trauma in the Greek society. I also work with the Centre for Better Managed Health and Social Care| at City University examining how social and health care management is mediated by identities, values, participation and empowerment.
I have taught at LSE and UCL on the qualitative software Atlas.ti and its uses in social research as well as on a variety of social psychological concepts (e.g. attributions, identity, attitudes) and their applications in real world issues such as social exclusion, mass media, cultural and economic development, disability, racism and health. I currently design , in collaboration with Martin Bauer, a new course entitled ‘Visual Rhetoric: Using Graphic Design in Research’ aiming to stimulate knowledge exchange between designers on the Graphic Design Postgraduate Program at the London College of Communication (LCC) and LSE academics and PhD students. I also collaborate with the London Business School as an executive leadership consultant.
