Feedback
Students have the option of handing in a 1 page (maximum) outline of their planned essay in the final week of Lent term (12th-16th March). This should be emailed to the relevant teacher for the course.
Students who submit such an outline page will receive short feedback on it within 3 weeks. This feedback consists of general comments such as 'reformulate the question', 'focus it better in the following way', 'consult this article', etc.
There is no feedback offered on the summative essay handed in on 30th April. Students will receive a grade only.
Penalties for Late Submission of Summative Coursework Essays
The School implements the following policy regarding late submission of summative coursework:
If a student believes that he or she has good cause not to meet the deadline for submission of their summative coursework essay, he or she should first discuss the matter with the course teacher and seek a formal extension from the Chair of the Board of Examiners. If a student misses the deadline for submission, but believes he or she has had good cause that could not have been recorded in advance, he or she should first discuss the matter with the course teacher and seek a formal extension.
Extensions will normally only be granted where there is a good reason backed by supporting evidence (e.g. medical certificate). Any extension must be confirmed in writing to the student.
If a student fails to submit by the set deadline (or extended deadline as appropriate) the following penalty will apply:
Five marks out of 100 will be deducted for coursework submitted within 24-hours of the deadline and a further five marks will be deducted for each subsequent 24-hour period (working days only) until the course work is submitted.
Penalties Relating to Length of MSc Summative Coursework
The Department implements the following policy in relation to word count/word limit:
There will be a 20% deduction for any student who lies about word count.
There will be a 0.5% deduction for every 1% exceeding the word limit.
