Page Contents >

LSE SU Economics Society conference

Date: Wednesday 3 March 2010
Time: 3-8pm
Venue:
Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House
Speakers: Various, listed below

Coinciding with the recent end point in the global recession, the convention hopes to pay special tribute to this turning point by revisiting the experience of, not only the most recent crisis, but also crises that extends far back into the early 90s, the beginning of this era of modern economic growth. We will start the half day convention by examining the lessons we have learnt through many painful falls, and review the advances made in the science of economics through our blunders. The session will move onto three seminars on three distinct, but nonetheless, greatly interesting topics very relevant to the crisis experience. We will end the convention on a lighter note by looking ahead, projecting unanswered questions arose in each of the major shocks in the last two decades, exploring areas of significant research interest in the near term future and giving warning to caveats that lie ahead.

The Spring Convention 2010 is proud to present the following guest speakers:
Howard Davies, School Director, LSE; Charles Goodhart, Director of Financial Regulation, FMG, LSE; John Van Reenen, Director, CEP, LSE; Gillian Tett, Assistant Editor, Financial Times; Paola Subcchi, Head of International Economics, Chatham House; Tim Congdon, Founder, Lombard Street Research; Charles Oman, Senior Economist, OECD; Victoria Chick, Emeritus Professor, UCL; Collin Mayer, Peter Moores Dean, Oxford Said Business School; Jeremy Barton, General Counsel, Head of Risk Management, Boston Consulting Group; Mark Spelman, Global Head of Strategy, Accenture; Thomas Noe, Ernest Bulletin Professor of Management Studies, Oxford Said Business School; Carl Emmerson, Deputy Director, Institute of Fiscal Studies.
