Dr Bauer's current research includes the theory of resistance in social processes, social representations and public attitudes to science and technology, in particular, genomics and biotechnology: how does public resistance influence techno-scientific projects? He retains an interest in issues of 'work and organisation', including job design, stress and motivation, organisational learning, and in qualitative methodology, in particular, corpus construction, computer-assisted text analysis, content analysis, n=1 studies and the continuous sampling of experience (Bemetology). Recent projects include Biotechnology and the Public, 1973-2002 (EC 1994-2003), Perceptions of BSE/CJD Risk, 1985-1999 (WHO/EC 1999-2002) and Science in the British Press, 1946-present (Wellcome Trust/Science Museum).
