With more than 10 years’ experience of research, Dr Colantonio is an urban geographer and economist who specialises in the investigation of the complex linkages between urban growth, economic development, sustainability and the geographies of development in both developing and developed countries. He has led several international research projects, including the European Investment Bank University Research Sponsorship Programme on socially sustainable urban regeneration (2006-2009) and "The Next Urban Economy", a research project which was conducted in cooperation with the Brookings Institutions, Washington, USA (2010-2011). He is the main author of "Urban Regeneration and Social Sustainability: Best Practice from European Cities" (2010) and "Urban Tourism and Development in the Socialist State. Havana during the ‘Special Period’" (2006).
