Much of my work has been involved investigating the determinants of future long-term care expenditure, in particular dementia and chronic conditions, both for the UK and for other European countries. I have worked on a macrosimulation model of future long-term care expenditure by people with dementia to investigate the impact that alternative future scenarios about dementia could have on long-term care expenditure. I developed a methodology for internationally comparable long-term care expenditure projections used by the European Commission (DG ECFIN). I have modelled the social care workforce implications of future projected increases in demand for long-term care. I am currently working on a project funded by the AXA Research Fund investigating the role of private Long-term Care Insurance as a supplement to state systems, the ANCIEN FP7 European project. I will soon be taking part in analysis of the CFASII dataset and use its detailed data on dementia and other care needs to estimate the current and future costs of dementia in England.
