Professor Perrons' areas of expertise are in globalisation, gender and inequality with particular interests in employment and earnings inequalities and finding new ways to organise and value work involved in caring. She also has interests and expertise in uneven regional development and social sustainability.

Her research current projects are: a) Globalisation, gender, and inequality – implications of the current crisis, LSE funded. b) Situating men within global care chains: the migrant handyman phenomenon, ESRC 2008-9 with Majella Kilkey, University of Hull; c) Inequality in the European Union, EU funded 2009-2010
