Emma’s research interests are centred on individual differences in leadership,
personality, decision making, risk, engagement with work, and their interactions with the working environment. Her work focuses on the causes and consequences of individual differences, and their implications for leading and managing in organisations. She was a founding member of, and is now an associate of, the Kingston Employee Engagement Consortium which comprises ten organisations from the public and private sectors. The Consortium research examines the individual and organisational factors that lead to optimal working environments. Other current projects include a study of decision makers in trading environments, and a study of leadership and team working among surgeons. She recently led a two year multi-disciplinary team of eight co-investigators for an EPSRC funded study investigating decision making and choice behaviour in relation to climate change. Emma has published a number of journal articles, book chapters, practitioner reports and articles, and co-authored the book ‘Traders. Managing risks and decisions in financial markets.’
Dr Soane is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, and a Chartered Scientist. She is the Programme Director for the MSc Management. She also co-ordinates the MSc Management Professional Development Programme and the postgraduate elective Leadership in Organisations.
