My major research interest is in the field of applied linguistics, cross-cultural communication and pragmatics. My PhD research looks into speech acts; particularly, it explores the linguistics and cultural differences in apology strategies used in UK and China. It covers intercutural and inter-language pragmatics with a comparative perspective.
I am also interested in teaching material development in teaching Mandarin as a foreign language. I am the author of textbook 'Mastering Chinese' for complete beginners of Mandarin. It offers a communicative and cultural approach. Currently, I am researching into the implications of e-learning in foreign language teaching and learning.
