I research history from below and popular politics in the modern Arab world. I have written on the histories of workers and migrants in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and the Arabian peninsula from the eighteenth century to the present. I have also published on postcolonial approaches to history-writing. My current work focuses on hegemony, social movements, and transnationalism.
