Sarah Thomson's research focuses on comparative analysis of health systems and health care reform, with particular emphasis on health financing in high- and middle-income countries. Recent work with the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies involves detailed analysis of health systems and financial sustainability in selected countries.

For the last five years she has also worked on projects funded by the New York-based Commonwealth Fund, the European Parliament, and the European Commission. From 2005 to 2008 Sarah was part of a team advising the UK Department of Health on healthcare reform in 13 countries. In addition to research, Sarah teaches in the Department of Social Policy at LSE and is Associate Editor of the CUP journal Health Economics, Policy and Law.
