Research interests and expertise cover 20th century Spanish history; contemporary Spanish politics, in particular the architecture of the Spanish state and regional government. The question of identity and nation is also an important focus, as well as the colonial war in Morocco between 1909 and 1927 and the use of chemical weapons in colonial wars in the interwar years of the 20th century. Another area of expertise is the political career of Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution and contemporary Cuban politics, including relations between Cuba and the United States.
