Dr Lubek talk

Invite:

Dear Friends of the Institute of Social Psychology,

We in the Health Community and Development Research| Stream are pleased to invite you to a talk being given by Dr. Ian Lubek on Wednesday 08 February, from 5.15 to 6.30pm at Connaught House, Room 1.05. You are also invited to join us for an informal, own-expense social hour following the talk, at the George IV pub on campus.

The title for Dr. Lubek's talk is: "Data may be transitory, but solidarity is forever: Lessons learned in Cambodia about data-driven health interventions and a beer-sellers' strike against Carlsberg."

Dr. Ian Lubek is currently Professor of Psychology (adjunct) at University of Guelph (Canada), Visiting Professorial Fellow at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales (Australia) and a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association. He specializes in Community Health and Social Psychology and his current research focuses on HIV/AIDS interventions amongst vulnerable populations in Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) Cambodia. Since 2000, he has worked with the Cambodian NGO "SiRCHESI", using a participatory action research approach to improve working conditions for women beer vendors and reduce their risk for HIV/AIDS, alcohol abuse, sexual coercion and workplace violence.

This NGO now also offers two-week internships for international students to come and assist with their programming. More information can be found here: http://www.fairtradebeer.com/|.

Dr. Lubek's previous talks have been very well received and we encourage you to join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening.
