The Workshop came into existence to assist the design and conduct of empirical research in social psychology, and develop the equipment and necessary support for classroom and laboratory teaching. Over the years, the Workshop has always strived to keep abreast of developing technologies. As microprocessors became available as electronic components, the Workshop developed skills in applying these devices to perform psychological experiments. With the development of the personal computer, the Workshop began writing software for on-screen experiments.
Continuing the development of computer technologies, the Institute of Social Psychology was first in the School to recognise the importance of multimedia in teaching, and the Workshop staff readily embraced the opportunity of developing this field. As the importance of this technology became clear, the Workshop quickly became known throughout the School as the multimedia laboratory.
Today, the Workshop still maintains all of the skills acquired over the years, and is the place that staff and students throughout the School turn to for help.
We operate an "on demand" service and can provide solutions to most technical problems related to research in the social sciences. The Workshop also has an extensive range of equipment which may be loaned out (audio recorders, transcription machines, video cameras, microphones, tripods, etc.).
