Dr Henz is a Senior Lecturer in Social Research Methods at the Sociology Department. Prior to joining the LSE, she held research fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Education in Berlin, Germany, at Stockholm University (Demography Unit and Swedish Institute for Social Research), Sweden, and at King's College, London. She is a docent in sociology at Stockholm University. Her studies have been concerned with longitudinal aspects of compulsory and post-compulsory educational participation, poverty, labour market participation, family dynamics and informal caregiving using a number of large-scale surveys. Most of her work focuses on the interrelationship between the spheres of the family and the labour market. One of her latest projects studied informal caregiving for a sick, disabled or elderly person in Great Britain, examining under which circumstances couples jointly provide care for their parents. Other recent work has addressed specific aspects of childbearing patterns in Europe. Her current project addresses long-term trends in conjugal homogamy in Britain.

Dr Henz teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on quantitative research methods and a graduate course on 'The family and the life course' in the Sociology Department. She supervises research projects in the areas of family sociology, demography and social stratification including education. The department welcomes applications for PhD studies in the area of life course analysis and contemporary families.
