Conference honouring the work of Professor Emeritus David J Bartholomew|

Research in Risk and Stochastics|

The Risk and Stochastics Group currently consists of six members within the Department,  with new appointments aimed at supporting the growing activities in this area: Reader Pauline Barrieu, Lecturer Erik Baurdoux, Lecturer Umut Cetin, Reader Angelos Dassios, Lecturer Hao Xing, Professor Ragnar Norberg and Lecturer Thorsten Rheinlander.

Research in Social Statistics |

We have a long tradition in the area of Social Statistics. The main research areas are latent variable modeling, multilevel and panel modeling, social measurement, statistical model selection, models with measurement error, missing data.

Research in Time Series|

Methodological research is guided by applications with the aid of academic and industrial experts. The theoretical activity in recent years covers a wide spectrum, ranging from linearity to space-time modelling.

The department has three undergraduate degrees that involve the applications of statistics to the social sciences, and include a range of statistical and mathematical subjects.

Our taught postgraduate courses are based around lectures, with problem classes and computer workshops. Most courses are assessed by a two-hour exam in the summer term although some contain an element of course work.
