The membership of the research committee shall be the Head of Department, the PhD Programme Director, the professorial staff of the department, other permanent academic staff within the Department of Statistics as agreed and a representative of the research staff within the department. The committee shall be sufficient in number that all main areas of research in the department be represented.

Frequency

The committee shall meet at least once in each Term (Michaelmas, Lent and Summer).

Terms of reference
1. To formulate and periodically review the department's research objectives, strategy and structure.
2. To advise when appropriate and report to the department on the recruitment, retention and mentoring of academic staff and postdoctoral research associates.
3. To promote research interactions between academics across the department, School, other academic institutions and non-academic bodies.
4. To co-ordinate and facilitate the department's response to large calls for research grant proposals.
5. To monitor the department's research performance for the Research Excellence Framework.
6. To provide suggestions and advice on the department's deployment of resources for research.
7. To consider requests for academic visitors in the department and advise the Head of Department on the financial implications of proposed visits.
8. To support the PhD Programme Director in the monitoring of the progress of PhD students within the department.
9. To monitor all other research-related matters arising.
10. To review these terms of reference annually.
