The core Risk and Stochastics Group (RSG) is conducting two academic programmes offered by the Statistics Department at the London School of Economics.

The BSc actuarial science, with a current intake of some 70 students per year, is unique in the country: it reflects the precept of the RSG by combining insurance mathematics and financial economics based in modern stochastics, with due regard to the paramount purpose of actuarial education as set out by the actuarial profession.

The MSc risk and stochastics, launched in 2004 and with a current intake of some 30 students, is probably unique in the world: an advanced programme in the mathematics of insurance and finance and their interface - rigorous, research-based, with emphasis on applicability. The MPhil/PhD in statistics is a vital part of the research activities of the Department of Statistics. Currently seven research students are supervised by members of the RSG.
