Academic Departments

Students joining the General Course are allocated to one of LSE's 19 academic departments, which together teach more than 250 courses. From their home department students must choose at least one (two if in Economics) of their four courses. This means that a student's host department need not reflect their major interest, and makes the choice considerably more broad. Given this, to help you select the department that's right for you the information sheets below provide details of the academic interests and strengths of each department, the skills and careers students pursuing each field acquire and the courses offered to General Course students.
