International Relations, Government and Society

About International Relations, Government and Society at LSE

The study of International Relations, Government and Society is a core activity of scholars at LSE. The departments of International Relations, Government and Sociology were not only amongst the first of their kind, but have remained leading world centres for the development of their respective subjects ever since. Indeed, LSE has long prided itself on maintaining the largest Department of International Relations in Western Europe, while its departments of Government and Sociology, are amongst the largest and best known in Britain.

The impact of the LSE's scholars in International Relations, Government and Sociology has been immense. Collectively, they have shaped the development of their respective disciplines as subjects of systematic study and introduced some of the key concepts and sub-fields that are a feature of these disciplines today. The wide spectrum of academic excellence in the social sciences at LSE ensures the unique, intellectually powerful context within which these subjects are taught and researched.

The teachers involved in the International Relations, Government and Society courses are drawn from the academic staff of the International Relations, Government, Economics, Anthropology, Media and Communications and Sociology Departments at LSE, with guest experts invited to contribute where appropriate. All teaching staff have published extensively in the field and many are frequent broadcasters and consultants in their specialist area.
