The support of our alumni, friends, Governors, parents, corporations and foundations around the world enables the School to achieve excellence in understanding and influence global forces and social change.
With over 12,000 supporters in 150 countries, alumni and friends are making a significant contribution to LSE and sharing in the School's vision and ambition. The support of the School's alumni communities sends a powerful message about the benefits of an LSE education. From acting as ambassadors, to donating to improve life at the School our supporters are an active and vital part of the LSE community.
The London School of Economics and Political Science is extremely grateful to those who choose to support its work. To ensure that donors receive the best care and acknowledgment, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations makes the following assurances:
Donations are accepted on the following understanding:
Academic Freedom: LSE accepts donations on the clear understanding that the funder can have no influence over the academic freedom and independence of LSE.
Admissions: The School's selection criteria for admissions are based exclusively on academic achievement and potential, and are fully independent of philanthropic support of the institution. In addition any gift will not affect the academic record of any current or future students nor have a bearing on any dispute between a student and the School about the outcome of his/her programme of study.
In return for their generosity, our donors can expect:
-
To be informed about LSE's priorities and the strategic aims of the School.
-
That the School is able to fulfil the intended purpose of a gift.
-
That a gift given for a specific purpose will be used for that purpose.
-
If there is a change in the priorities or needs of the School, or in the case of funding an academic position, a change in personnel, the use of donations will be discussed with the donor or their representative.
-
To be informed of the impact of their donation, eg, recruitment for a post they have funded, outputs of research they have supported, the award of a scholarship or bursary that they have funded, and to have agreed stewardship commitments honoured.
-
To have their donation acknowledged in a timely manner, and where appropriate to be publically recognised in consultation with the School, or to remain anonymous if requested.
-
To have their right to privacy respected and their personal information to be treated in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
-
To have their questions relating to their donation answered in a timely and honest manner.
-
To have access to the School's published accounts.
