Leslie Hannah is an economic historian and business economist who spent most of his career at LSE, after an apprenticeship as research fellow and lecturer at the universities of Oxford, Essex and Cambridge, with later spells as a visiting professor at Harvard Business School, London Business School, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and Reading (Henley) Business School.

At LSE he was recruited to run the new Business History Unit in 1978 and later became head of the Economic History Department. From 1995-7 he was the School’s Pro-Director (Acting Director 1996-7). He then served for ten years as dean of Cass Business School, London, chief executive of Ashridge Management College, and professor of economics at the University of Tokyo, before returning as a Visiting Professor in the LSE’s Economic History Department. He was made a Distinguished Honorary Professor of Cardiff Business School in 2014 and in 2017 Professor Emeritus at LSE. He now divides his time between Tokyo and London.
