In this event investigative journalist Hannah Barnes speaks about her book: how she came to investigate the Tavistock’s gender service for children, the testimony she received, and her attempts to understand how safeguarding concerns got lost and the service unraveled.
Meet our speaker and chair
Hannah Barnes (@hannahsbee) is a journalist at the BBC's flagship current affairs programme, Newsnight. She led its coverage of the care available to young people experiencing gender incongruence or gender-related distress, which helped precipitate an extensive NHS review. Barnes specialises in investigative and analytical journalism and, over the last decade and a half, has produced a variety of the BBC’s most respected long-form radio programmes and documentaries.
Lucinda Platt is Professor of Social Policy and Sociology in the Social Policy Department at LSE. She researches on a range of topics including child cognitive and emotional development, and children with special educational needs. She is author of Understanding Inequalities: Stratification and Difference.
David Kershaw is Dean of LSE Law School. He is also a member of LSE Council, the Governing Body of LSE, and an Associate Tenant at Cornerstone Barristers. He is a former General Editor of the Modern Law Review.
