Drawing on his personal experiences, Matthew Kidd will explain how, during his term as High Commissioner, the UK Government has supported talks on a Cyprus settlement, and share his views on the way forward. He will also offer his perspective on relations between the UK and Cyprus, including developments over the last few years and future prospects.
Matthew Kidd CMG is former British High Commissioner to Cyprus. He began his career in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1978 and took up his first posting to Cyprus in 1980. He was later posted to UK diplomatic missions in New York, Paris, Ethiopia, Germany and NATO before returning to Cyprus as British High Commissioner from May 2010 to August 2014 and again from June 2016 until retirement in April 2018. Matthew attended Oxford University where he read languages.
