Drawing on his personal experiences, Matthew Kidd will explain how, during his term as High Commissioner,  the UK Government has supported talks on a Cyprus settlement, and share his views on the way forward. He will also offer his perspective on relations between the UK and Cyprus, including developments over the last few years and future prospects.

Matthew Kidd CMG is former British High Commissioner to Cyprus. He began his career in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1978 and took up his first posting to Cyprus in 1980. He was later posted to UK diplomatic missions in New York, Paris, Ethiopia, Germany and NATO before returning to Cyprus as British High Commissioner from May 2010 to August 2014 and again from June 2016 until retirement in April 2018. Matthew attended Oxford University where he read languages.

Professor James Ker-Lindsay is Senior Visiting Fellow at LSEE- Research on South Eastern Europe.

The Hellenic Observatory (@HO_LSE)  is internationally recognised as one of the premier research centres on contemporary Greece and Cyprus. It engages in a range of activities, including developing and supporting academic and policy-related research; organisation of conferences, seminars and workshops; academic exchange through visiting fellowships and internships; as well as teaching at the graduate level through LSE's European Institute.

The Chair for Contemporary Turkish Studies focuses on culture, religion, politics, and memory in Turkey and among Turkey's diasporic populations. Its mission is to promote a deeper understanding of Turkey with emphasis on its diversity and a focus on its connections to the world. As the only Chair of its kind located at a European Institute, its specific focus is Turkey's dynamic relationship with Europe. The Chair provides academic leadership in the study of Turkey through interdisciplinary and critical research, teaching and related public activities. It organizes seminars and conferences, and supports doctoral studies on contemporary Turkey.
