About me

Romeo Gurakuqi is a Professor of History and Law and a former Member of Albanian Parliament (2017-19). He is a prominent researcher of modern and contemporary Albanian history and a senior columnist at the Albanian newspaper Panorama.

From 1991 to 2012 he worked as a Professor at University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi” and from 2006 to 2017 at the European University of Tirana. At Tirana, he acted as: Dean of Faculty of Law; Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Director of Institute of Contemporary History, and Director of Doctoral School. Since 2019 he is a professor at Institute of Historical Research at Academy of Albanian Studies.

His teaching has concentrated on the subject of Modern History of Europe and the US, and History of the Western Institutions. He has been a university lecturer for 30 years. He is a senior researcher on political and international history of Balkans and Albania for the period 1878-1950.

He has been a Visiting Member of Institute of Historical Research University of London, (1996-98) and Visiting Professor at: Karl Franzens Universitat Graz (Austria), Universita degli Studi di Bari (Italy), Universita degli Studi di Padova (Italy), Instituto Trentino di Cultura (Italy),  Central European University Budapest (Hungary). In 2005, 2006, 2010 he was a Visiting Fellow at Center for the Study of Global Governance at LSE. In 2022, he is now a Visiting Fellow at the Department of International History at LSE.
