About me

As an historian, Pedro Ramos Pinto is interested on how inequality is created, reproduced and challenged over time. How have human societies generated hierarchies and along what dimensions of life? How have these been challenged by action and events, and how have they been transformed? During his time at the International Inequalities Institute, Pedro will be working on a range of inequality-related projects, including a forthcoming book on how to approach these themes historically, as well as other work on the history of measurement of inequality, and on the global politics of distribution since the middle of the twentieth century.

Since 2012, Pedro has directed the Inequality & History Network, which has supported a number of events, and continues to disseminate research and debates on the topic. His earlier work addressed the politics of social citizenship during the Portuguese revolution and transition to democracy, the authoritarian origins of Southern European welfare regimes, as well as work on contemporary anti-austerity social movements. He is Senior Lecturer in International Economic History at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Trinity Hall.
