About me

Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay is Professor of Development Economics at Queen Mary University of London and Visiting Professor at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics.

Sanghamitra is an economist specialising on the measurement and causes of growth, inequality and poverty. Her research on developing countries focusses on South Asia and Africa. Her recent work deals with measuring inequality over time, income distributional analyses, welfare analyses for the study of poverty and vulnerability and studies on the political economy of development in Africa. Sanghamitra’s research is published in the Journal of Economic Inequality, World Development, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Journal of Regional Science, Review of Development Economics, Journal of Development Studies, amongst others.

Sanghamitra is Deputy Director at the Centre for Globalisation Research at Queen Mary University of London and leads the UK wide research group Research Circle for the Study of Inequality and Poverty. She is currently co-editor of Review of Development Economics and the series co-editor of Research on Economic Inequality, and serves on several editorial boards. Sanghamitra is also Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of African Economies at the University of Oxford. Sanghamitra has taught at the University of Oxford, London School of Economics and the University of Birmingham, and has been Visiting Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics and Visiting Fellow at Cornell University.
