LSE has remained the top university in London and fourth in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 published today (15 September 2023).

The 2024 rankings scored LSE highly for research quality, graduate prospects, continuation rates and student-staff ratio.

The School was also shortlisted for The Times and Sunday Times ‘University of the Year’ prize.

Individual disciplines across LSE were ranked highly, coming top in Accounting and Finance; Anthropology; Psychological and Behavioural Science; and Social Policy.  Eight other subjects were ranked in the top ten.

For the first year, the rankings also highlighted an ‘eco score’ for each university. LSE received 5/5, from data provided by People and Planet on the environmental and ethical standards of each UK university.

These rankings are consistent with other league tables published this month, including the Guardian’s Best UK Universities guide which ranked LSE top in London and fourth in the UK. LSE also recently came fifth overall in a new Daily Mail table and was ranked joint top in the UK for graduate salaries and second in the country for continuation rates.

Commenting on the news, LSE’s interim President and Vice Chancellor Eric Neumayer said: “Our position as the top university in London, yet again, is a well-deserved recognition of all the tremendous work taking place across the School.

“Rooted in London with a truly international outlook, LSE will continue to educate students and generate ideas that help shape the world’s political, economic and social future for the better.”

LSE has also led the way in other areas recently, winning Outstanding Entrepreneurial University at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards last autumn; launching a sector-leading master’s course on AI Management this spring; and setting up several new widening participation initiatives this year focusing on students underrepresented in higher education.

The School was ranked as the top university in London this summer in the Complete University Guide 2024 and one of the top universities in the world last year in the Times Higher Education World University rankings. It was also ranked top university for world-leading research produced in the Research Excellence Framework (REF), published last year.
