About me

Dr Aleksandar Matic is the Head of Research at Telefonica Alpha’s Health Moonshot. He is leading the team of scientific researchers with expertise in data science, complex networks and behavioural analysis.

Aleksandar’s research career has focused on using data science and machine learning to better understand human behaviour, personal traits, states and decision-making mechanisms. He authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, 8 patent applications, and he has regularly served as a chair in conference committees (such as Mobile HCI, Pervasive Health, Digital Health, etc.) and as a guest editor in various journals in the area of health informatics. Prior to joining Telefonica Alpha, he was a researcher at Telefonica Research (Spain) and at CREATE-NET research centre (Italy), and he was a visiting researcher at University of California Irvine (USA). He obtained his PhD from the University of Trento, Italy.

Aleksandar has been closely collaborating with the LSE since 2016. Together with Prof. Paul Dolan and the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science, Aleksandar co-designed Reflections Study and currently he is coordinating data analysis that is bringing new insights on methods and on the relationships between personal traits, behaviour and wellbeing. He is currently co-advising three PhD students - Amanda Henwood (Psychological and Behavioural Science Lab, LSE), Mohammed Khwaja (Imperial College London), and Roger Garriga (University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona).
