About me

Fangming Cui received her B.A. degree in Psychology, Brain & Cognitive Science from the University of Rochester. Following this, she continued with her graduate studies in Psychology at Cornell University. She joined the Person and Context (PAC) lab led by Professor Vivian Zayas, where she studied the effect of emotions, especially negative emotions on motivational consequences in the context of romantic relationships. She received her M.A. in 2020 and her Ph.D. in 2023 from Cornell University.

After graduating, Fangming joined the Department of Anthropology at the University of Helsinki, Finland, as a postdoctoral researcher. There she continues to work on the effect of emotional experiences and exploring the understudied negative emotion of irritation. In collaboration with psychologists, anthropologists and sociologists, she and her team will carry out the first preliminary and empirical examination of irritation, using diverse methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, experimental, ethnographic, and cross-cultural comparative methods).
