Study at the world's leading dedicated social science institution

LSE offers various opportunities for African nationals to undertake study or research at the institution. Every year, over 200 Africans from at least 30 countries come to LSE on short courses, fellowships and taught and research programmes that are available across 19 departments.

At LSE, you will be part of an international student body of over 150 nationalities. During your time here you can tap into the knowledge and expertise of leading thinkers and experts in social science, participate in widely attended events with speakers from across the globe and build a network in one of the most diverse campuses in the world.

Scholarships

LSE and external organisations offer a number of scholarships for African students to study at LSE. The value of support ranges in value from 10 per cent of the tuition fee to a full fees and maintenance award.

Approximately 19 per cent of taught masters offer holders are successful in obtaining some form of financial support from the School.

Programme for African Leadership

The Programme for African Leadership is an extracurricular leadership and networking programme for African graduate students studying at LSE.

The Programme was established at by the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa to empower a new generation of African leaders who will promote best practices of economic and social development in their organisations and countries.

LSE PhD students working on Africa

There are many ways for LSE PhD students working on Africa to become involved with the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa.

PhD students nearing the end of their degrees may want to consider applying for an early career fellowship through the FLIA if their research agenda has an Africa-focused topic. Such postdoctoral fellowship schemes are often offered on a yearly basis by UK granting organisations through a competitive application process.

There are also opportunies for becoming involved with the FLIA event programme, writing for the Africa at LSE blog and contributing to a range of ongoing creative iniativies such as workshops and podcasts.
