Aisha Taal 

Programme: MSc Development Studies

Aisha recently graduated from the University of Kansas, with a BSc in Sociology and minors in French and Healthcare Management. Before coming to LSE to attain an MSc in Development Studies, she volunteered at a local NGO in Bujumbura, Burundi, where she helped register human trafficking and sexual violence cases and collaborated with the organisation’s partners on projects that help victims of human trafficking and children in need. Her interests lie in the health and environmental spheres of development, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Alejandro del Valle Louw 

Programme: MSc Philosophy & Public Policy

Hailing from South Africa, Alejandro has pursued further education across Spain, the Netherlands, and now London. His work ethic has always been characterised by an emphasis on team work and communication, as well as the African principle of Ubuntu.

He is propelled by the intersection between philosophy, politics, and economics in the modern world and using philosophy as a practical tool for creating a better, more sustainable tomorrow. His key interests include AI Ethics, Legal Ethics, African Philosophy, Political Philosophy, and making academic philosophy more accessible and open to the insights of marginalised groups. Alejandro's current research areas include the fair use of AI in judicial decision making, policy making under epistemic uncertainty, and exploring the intersection between metaphysical determinism and the criminal justice system.

Amtu Akumfi-Ameyaw

Programme: MSc Gender, Development and Globalisation 

Amatus-Sabooh Wahab Akumfi-Ameyaw, also identified as Amtu Akumfi-Ameyaw, studied Political Science and French at the University of Ghana and is currently studying MSc Gender, Development and Globalisation at LSE. On campus, She doubles as co-president of the PfAL 13 cohort. 

She has an avid interest in youth and women’s participation in leadership and politics and her passion is fueled by over 10 years of national and international experience in student leadership and activism, empowerment, youth development work, volunteerism and entrepreneurship.

Before starting her MSc, she was with the United Nations Population Fund Youth Leaders fellowship assigned to the gender unit where she was responsible for programme design, coordination and facilitation of youth, men and boys engagement on women empowerment, gender transformation, gender mainstreaming and equality.

Arshiya Ansari 

Programme: MSc Empires, Colonialism, and Globalisation 

Arshiya Ansari is an MSc candidate with the Department of International History. She is deeply passionate about the impacts of historical processes and the effects they have on different groups within societies. She is also interested in looking at the long term impacts of institutional processes in Africa, and how as a continent, we can continue to develop despite historical externalities.

Ayoposi Ogboye

Programme: MSc Global Health Policy

Ayoposi is a Global Health professional with solid research and analytical skills keen to facilitate access to quality healthcare, particularly in developing countries. He has experience in various sectors, including digital health, occupational health and financial services.

He has authored two scientific articles examining the prevalence of NCDs and the barriers women face in accessing healthcare. Ayoposi is particularly interested in global healthcare policy, financing and advocacy.

Boubacar Ouane

Programme: MSc International Relations

Boubacar Ouane recently graduated with a BA in Political Science and International Development. His research interests focus on the effects of international peace-building efforts in the Sahelian region, particularly through the role of international military partnerships in shaping Malian foreign policy. The goal of his research seeks to highlight the limitations of foreign peacebuilding mechanisms and to recentre African agency and local community engagement in the development of security policies.

He is currently working with The LSE Department of International Development under Professor Catherine Boone, conducting a research project on global commodity chains linking cocoa producer cooperatives in Côte d'Ivoire to the global market.

David Iniama

Programme: MSc Global Health Policy 

David is an enthusiastic and outcome-oriented medical doctor with over 10 years' experience working as a clinician and public health professional with both local and international NGOs at regional and state levels.

Having served as both technical and administrative leads at these NGOs, he has a key interest in solving global health challenges through policy-making and innovation, and developing health products and services for underserved communities using both traditional and technology-driven methods. Edgar Buberwa

Programme: MSc Development Management (Applied Development Economics)

Edgar Buberwa is a Tanzanian international development professional with strategy consulting experience in the African development sector. He is pursuing an MSc. in Development Management (Applied Development Economics) at the LSE Department of International Development as a Chevening Scholar.

Prior to LSE, Edgar worked for a development consulting firm where he engaged with governments, multilateral organizations, philanthropic partners, and private sector clients across projects for inclusive economic development, agriculture and food security, financial inclusion, climate change, impact investing, gender, and trade in several SSA countries.

Farzana Ibrahim

Farzana Ibrahim is a Chevening scholar from Kenya. She is passionate about economic development and wishes to contribute to shaping her country's economic, social and political landscape as well as that of the African continent. 

She studied Economics and Finance for her undergraduate studies at Kenyatta University. Farzana is a development practitioner with over five years of experience. Before joining LSE, she worked in International Development Advisory with donor partners and government officials across East Africa, specifically Somalia and Sudan. She has previously worked with the Africa Union Commission in Addis Ababa within the Programmes, Budget and Finance Directorate. Fatima Ezzahraa Wafqui

Programme: MSc Health Policy, Planning and Financing

Fatima Ezzahraa Wafqui is a Moroccan medical doctor, co-founder and researcher with a passion for fostering global health initiatives and improving global access to medicines. She co-founded MedeC’In Casa, an IFMSA local chapter, that raised more than $50.000K for various initiatives and has organised more than 1000 bilateral exchanges for medical students in Casablanca over the past 10 years. Fatima is pursuing an MSc in Health Policy Planning and Financing, where she explores pivotal solutions in addressing various health issues in Morocco as well as access to medicines in LMIC countries. 

Fatima's dedication is underscored by her participation in various global health programs and her notable achievements, including being part of UNFPA Morocco’s Youth Innovation group and being awarded a MEPI Student Leader scholarship by the US Embassy in Morocco. With a track record of academic excellence and leadership, she continues to make meaningful contributions to the healthcare landscape and global health advocacy.

Fatimata-Atty Djibrine

Programme: MSc International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies

Fatima is a Chevening Scholar from Niger and a current MSc student in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies (with an African Development Specialism) at LSE, where she deepens her knowledge and skills in the field. Parallel to her studies, she is an advisory board member of NIGER-LAIT S.A, where she has assisted the board with executive decisions, restructurations of the commercial sector, rebranding of products, and recruiting talent.

She leverages her expertise in development consultancy by working at DMA Invest, an organisation that brings together high-level global stakeholders to create opportunities for FDI in emerging markets. She has experience as a research fellow exploring development intersectionalities as catalysts for economic prosperity.

Her multicultural upbringing and exposure has shaped her worldview. Her drive is fuelled by seeking to bridge the gap between the Global South and North and contribute to positive social and economic prosperity in the Sahel region.

Goodness Ogeyi Odey is a public health practitioner who is passionate about advancing health systems strengthening and equitable engagements towards the achievement of glocal sustainable development and universal health coverage especially in Africa. She is a Chevening Scholar pursuing an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing at LSTHM and LSE.

Haja Isatu Bah

Programme: MSc Environment and Development 

Haja is the founder of Uman4Uman, a social enterprise that focuses on addressing the issue of period poverty and menstrual product waste among young girls and women with reusable menstrual pads and menstrual health education in Sierra Leone.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College. Haja is a two-time TEDx speaker on the topics of education for climate action as well as  merging a love for learning and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Heran Tafete

Programme: MSc Gender Studies

Heran is a graduate student studying for an MSc in Gender at LSE. Professionally, she is a human-centered design thinker and researcher focused on using creative, participatory and user-led approaches such as HCD to design holistic solutions to complex social problems in the civil society sector.

She has a diverse design portfolio spanning adolescent sexual reproductive health, meaningful youth engagement, economic empowerment, financial inclusion, maternal and newborn child health, WASH and gender equality. Additionally, she is skilled in program coordination, stakeholder management, strategic thinking and communication. Heran hopes to integrate her studies into her work as a design thinker to rethink systems of social inequality and create sustainable and inclusive interventions in the development sector.

Inaara Karmali

Programme: MSc in Social Anthropology

Inaara, born and raised in Uganda and Kenya, brings a unique perspective to interactions, shaped by her South Asian East African heritage and diverse academic journey. Awarded a scholarship for two fully-funded Master's degrees from the Institute of Ismaili Studies and LSE, after completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology, she is deeply committed to understanding and addressing complex social issues affecting marginalised communities.

Jackline Wanjiku Ngigi

Jay Grunder

Jay is an experienced development consultant, who has worked on projects across Eastern and Southern Africa. Before coming to LSE, Jay worked on economic development projects aimed at improving economic growth and economic inclusion on the continent.

Jay came to LSE to improve his understanding of the development field, pursuing an MSc in Development Studies. Jay hopes to return to South Africa after graduation to continue working on African economic development, through specifically made-in-Africa programs such as the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

Joyce Odera Nwankwo

Programme: MSc Behavioural Science 

Joyce has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and is currently pursuing a Master's in Behavioural Science. She is armed with varied professional experience, from working in real estate marketing and advertising to currently supporting the United Nations office for West Africa and the Sahel.

She is passionate about how to utilise behavioural science tools to nudge and influence human behaviour. Joyce is particularly curious about political psychology, learning political dynamics within social groups and understanding how to assess the fairness or unfairness of resource distribution amongst a circle of people. Kezia Wafula

Kezia is a Kenyan healthcare data analyst by profession and a health economics enthusiast passionate about promoting equitable decision-making with data-driven insights. Her research is fueled by her passion to see Pan-African economic growth. Kezia's work thus far has been centred on All Payers Claims Databases particularly in ensuring data quality control and promoting transparency in healthcare insurance data. Her future career interests include being a key stakeholder in formulating healthcare policy and planning in healthcare systems. Kristin Smithers

Programme: MSc Environmental Policy and Regulation

After graduating from the University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) in Geography, Kristin lived in South Africa where she began working with Wilderness Foundation Africa as their Advocacy Programme Coordinator. Her role has been focused on supporting progressive environmental policy, building political will amongst policymakers and creating pathways for marginalised stakeholders to engage in the policy development process. Martin Aduko

Martin’s entrepreneurial efforts boast a remarkable record of success recognised by organisations like the Association of Ghana Industries and the Net Impact Group. With over three years’ experience in social enterprise development and startup navigation, he is passionately committed to using entrepreneurship for positive change. He is an alumnus of the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST, YALY RLC West Africa and is currently a Standard Bank Africa Chairman’s Scholar.

Martin studies an MSc in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at LSE and won first place during the LSE Generate Startup competition held in December 2023. He became a finalist among the top student entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom, emerging as second runner-up at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards 2024 held in London by the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation. Muthoni Kibaki

As an LLB graduate, Muthoni holds a foundational interest in fighting inequality and being a driver for social and regulatory change. Meriem Messaoudi

Before commencing her Master’s program at LSE, Meriem gained four years of experience in public sector consulting. In this role, she collaborated with state and local governments to drive strategic development, address community challenges, and optimize government operations. Nafisa Bello Suleiman

Nafisa is a recent graduate of University College London, holding a Bachelor of Science in Politics and International Relations. Beyond her academic journey, she dedicates her time to volunteering and spearheading two inspiring NGOs—Safe, Healthy and Empowered (S.H.E) World and We Write. Nyashadzashe Mandivenga

Programme: MSc Development Management, African Development Specialism

As a Pan-African, Zimbabwean woman, Nyasha is passionate about driving sustainable development across Africa based on the philosophy of Ubuntu. Her academic journey is guided by decolonial theory and the critical examination of existing knowledge production systems, their colonial legacies, and how this impacts how Africa is studied and perceived in development discourse. Within development, her interests are in education, ethical and sustainable development, and endogenous knowledge production. She acts as a chair on the Ethical Development Initiative board, which promotes critical and ethical thinking/practices within the field of development.

Olubunmi Ifeolu Oluronbi 

Programme: MSc Global Health Policy

Dr. Ifeolu is a medical doctor with almost half a decade of experience in clinical medicine as well as volunteering for outreaches to provide quality healthcare services to underserved communities in Nigeria. She is passionate about improving health systems with a focus on the brain drain of the medical workforce.

Omole Imosemi

Programme: MSc Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Omole is a consummate professional with over 15 years’ experience in Brand Management, Marketing & Strategy, Media & Communications, Learning & Development and Project Management. She possesses a first degree in Economics and Statistics, from the University of Benin and an MBA from the University of Lagos, both in Nigeria, West Africa. She also holds a Professional Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.  

A social entrepreneur and literacy and lifelong learning advocate, she set up BrandLee Solutions, a resourcing and consulting firm with a social impact imperative, introducing “Bookbased Learning”, a pioneering structured approach that leverages high impact books for corporate training within Nigeria. Opeyemi Adetunji

Opeyemi is a young, adventurous and unassuming Nigerian woman with a strong passion for improving and strengthening the healthcare space in Nigeria and by extension Africa. She has a background in pharmacy, and a wealth of experience working within community and hospital pharmacies in Nigeria. She is currently a Commonwealth Scholar at LSE studying Global Health Policy. She is also a logistics committee member for the 2024 LSE Africa Summit.

Peter Keelson-Aikins

Programme: MSc International Social and Public Policy

Peter studies International Social and Public Policy with special interests in funding sustainability for education programs in Ghana and the remodeling of the methods of teaching and learning to suit the fast evolving global labour climate.

In his undergraduate years, he was involved in a number of student affairs, which included his assumption to the office of Junior Common President in one of the halls in the University of Ghana. By this extraordinary privilege, he served on several committees and boards to contribute to the cause of student activism within the university community. 

Peter relates that subscribing to PfAL has been incredibly helpful in his “building process”, with enormous, enriching experiences found in PfAL projects and activities. He has no doubt in his mind that the programme after its duration would be useful to the path of his progress.

Pierre-William Lopy

Programme: MSc Development Studies

Pierre-William holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and is currently pursuing an MSc in Development Studies, with a specialism in Applied Development Economics. Before joining LSE, he worked at the Ministry of Finance and Budget in Senegal, deepening his knowledge in public finance and experience in development policy.

Passionate about unlocking potential and value in Sub-Saharan Africa, he set up his own farm-school project focused on empowering young women who are agricultural entrepreneurs in Senegal. Parallel to his studies, he teamed up with fellow postgraduate students to set up InnField Advisory to provide policy and infrastructure consultancy support to cooperation agencies, multilateral organisations and NGOs. His current academic research aims to assess the impacts of financial inclusion on West African populations.

Precious Olisaokafor

Programme: MSc Development Studies

Precious Olisaokafor holds a first degree in History, Politics, and International Relations. She has acquired experiences in designing and teaching educational programs and has been supporting social and economic development campaigns, particularly in advocating for better access to education for youths in Nigeria.

She has been working at Cambridge Partnership for Education, a part of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, which partner with governments and NGOs to implement sustainable educational change around the world. 

As the recent global co-chair for the organisation’s Racial Equality and Ethnicity Balance Staff Network, Precious is also passionate about helping organisations bridge the diversity gap and build inclusive leadership into their global strategies. She hopes her future efforts promote Africa's development and accessibility to opportunities across the continent and beyond. Alongside her work, Precious loves creating and is an artist and graphic designer.

Precious Temowo

Precious holds a BSc in Computer Science. Before LSE, she worked as a network administrator at a Development Finance Institution. With a passion for making education accessible to African children, particularly empowering girls, Precious, while leveraging her technical expertise, seeks to create opportunities to bridge the educational gap and open doors for the next generation of African leaders.

Purity Wambui

Programme: MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing

Purity Wambui is a pharmacist and a dedicated advocate for global health from Kenya. Her expertise lies in managing health projects, designing impactful advocacy campaigns, and fostering strategic partnerships. In particular, Purity is committed to advancing health equity and her fervour lies in enhancing equitable access to quality, safe and effective medicines and vaccines in low-and-middle-income countries. 

Recognised as a 2023 Mandela Washington Fellow and a 2023 Chevening Scholar, Purity has also exemplified excellence in leadership and dedication to her community, by notably advancing meaningful youth engagement in global health. She is a firm believer in the power of collaboration and hopes that this will pave the way for a future that is healthier and more equitable. 
Purity is currently pursuing an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing at LSE and LSHTM.

Renee Etokakpan

Programme: MSc International Social and Public Policy (Research)

Renee Etokakpan is a driven professional with demonstrated programme management and business development acumen. She has two years’ experience working in the Built Environment where she is driven by a passion for community enrichment and empowering organisations to deliver on their ESG strategies. Renee is also a poet, writer, and aspiring sociologist. She is currently studying MSc International Social and Public Policy (Research) at LSE, following her undergraduate degree in Project Management at UCL’s The Bartlett.

Sibabalwe 'Bea' Mama

Programme: MSc Global Health Policy 

Sibabalwe Mama is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Global Health Policy at LSE, supported by the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for the academic year 2023/2024.  Sibabalwe, attained a Master's in Medicine with a focus on Bioethics and Health Law from the University of The Witwatersrand, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town. Sibabalwe has experience from her various roles in healthcare, including as an analyst within the health practice at Genesis Analytics and various  public and private physiotherapy practices in South Africa.

Slim El Aiba

Programme: LLM Corporate and Commercial Law

Slim El Aiba is a Tunisian and an aspiring solicitor. He studied at the University of Edinburgh for four years and moved to London to pursue his LLM at LSE. He is passionate about the legal side of business, inclusive of all types of financial transactions and deal flow. His dream is to gain enough experience to make a meaningful impact on the business landscape in Tunisia and Africa.

Teloni Thandiwe Nkhalamba

Programme: MSc Anthropology and Development

Teloni holds a BA in War Studies and History from King’s College London. Her academic pursuits are centred around gendered global politics, with a particular emphasis on women’s political participation and feminist political economies of war in Africa. She also actively contributes to the visual arts and museums sector. Her efforts are directed towards highlighting the contributions of African artists in the West as well as volunteering for visual arts organisations and galleries.

Toritseju Nanna 

Programme: LLM Master of Laws

Toritseju Nanna is a Nigerian/German legal scholar. He obtained his undergraduate law degree from the Freie Universitaet in Berlin, where he specialised in Public International Law and European Law. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Law at LSE, where he is focusing on Constitutional Law, International Criminal Law, Migration Law, Human Rights Law and International Development Law. His research interest is the relationship between federalist forms of government and peace building in ethnically and religiously diverse societies.

Before coming to LSE, Toritseju worked as a research assistant at the Institute of International Law and Comparative Public Law of the Freie Universitaet Berlin. He has also worked as a conference moderator for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, one of the largest political foundations and think tanks in Europe.

Veronica Ann Onyedikachi Arochukwu

Programme: MSc International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies 

Onyedikachi Veronica Ann Arochukwu is a dynamic, young, Nigerian woman currently pursuing a Master's in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies.
