The Programme for African Leadership is an extra-curricular programme focused on leadership development and networking, available exclusively to graduate students of African nationality currently studying at the School.

FLIA partners with AfroPark, New Comma, Open Space, and Reformation Community for our annual Black History Month Ubuntu Cafe. Under the theme of 'Amplifying Voices of the African Diaspora in the UK', the event will feature Diaspora Diaries, a fireside chat, the Inter-University Africa Debates (LSE vs Birmingham), and an art exhibition.

To commemorate Africa Day on 24 May 2024, the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa will host the next Ubuntu Café. The event will consist of a keynote speech, as well as a fashion show and the showcase of the 'Africa Debates' series.

This event will host the former president of the Republic of Ghana, HE John Dramani Mahama and PfALers as well as key stakeholders with an interest in African Growth. The full event comprises a student debate, a lecture and Q&A session with the former president, and a closed session with the current PfAL cohort, which focuses on youth development.
Join us for this public lecture delivered by Peter Mbah where he will discuss his economic vision for Enugu State, Nigeria, with a focus on his health and education interventions.
Health and education are intricately tied to economic development. Enugu State, situated in the South-East of Nigeria, with an estimated population of 4.7 million, is experiencing a major economic reorganisation under the new leadership of His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, whose vision is to catapult the State from the present $4.4Bn economy to a $30Bn economy in the next 4-8 years. Dr Mbah will discuss his health and education sectors reforms in the context of his broader multi-sectoral strategies towards the realisation of the economic aspirations of the state.
Thesis Bootcamp
Writing a Master’s dissertation can be an enriching and memorable experience but we know it can be difficult to get started, maintain momentum and stay motivated. The Dissertation Bootcamp is an opportunity to learn tips and strategies, receive feedback on your work so far and spend time dedicated developing your thesis. The Bootcamp is more relevant to postgraduate students who are in the early writing stages, or who have begun their research and would like to review their process so far and plan their next steps.
