Julius Sen

Julius Sen is an Associate Director and Senior Programme Advisor at LSE Enterprise, the commercial arm of the London School of Economics and Political Science which organises customised executive education programmes and consultancy projects on behalf of the School.

Julius has extensive experience in policy making and implementation in government, together with his academic and analytical expertise in trade, regulation, competitiveness, and economic policy related issues. Much of his current work is associated with assessing political, regulatory, strategic and other types of risk that both governments and the private sector are concerned about

Julius has a BA in History from Carleton University (1969-73) and an MA (Economics) from the LSE (1994-95). For over 20 years, he worked as a civil servant at both federal and regional levels in India, including senior positions in civil service training and human resources development, home affairs, and finance. He also led trade policy programmes at the Commonwealth Business Council in the UK, which is the business arm of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

At LSE Enterprise, Julius currently undertakes programme structuring and advisory for large projects on themes of trade, risk analysis and evaluation, international political economy, public sector management and leadership, competitiveness and regulation, and economics.

For almost a decade he has been working as Academic Course Director for a multi-level training programme for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Other governments for which Julius has led academic training programmes include Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Dubai, Pakistan, Brunei, Indonesia, Libya, India, Taiwan and South Africa, as well as various institutions and other organisations in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Julius has also written applied policy and advisory papers on regional economic development, coping and adapting to risks of various sorts, and the implementation of commitments related to trade policy coordination and regulatory compliance.

Besides executive education and policy advice, Julius also undertakes commercial research and consultancy projects on a range of political economy, competition policy, risk and regulation and competitiveness issues for both private and public sector organisations. His private sector clients include ChevronTexaco, Pfizer, Unisys, JTI, the IADC and DHL.
