Therapy Dogs visit

We were very lucky to be visited by four wonderful dogs (and their owners) from Therapy Dogs Nationwide. The idea was to make students feel relaxed and calm in advance of summer exams by providing a fun distraction. It is well known that there are many benefits to Animal Assisted Therapies, included increased focus and concentration and reduced anxiety.  Our students certainly seemed to enjoy the experience!

14 February 2018
Group Volunteering Event
This group event was arranged in conjunction with the LSE Volunteer Centre. Students spent the afternoon at the FareShare distribution centre in Deptford, South-East London. FareShare saves good food from going to waste by redistributing it around the UK to charities and community groups such as homeless shelters and children’s clubs. The main tasks students assisted with were sorting food into pallets to be re-distributed, checking and noting used-by-dates and judging which food to put aside if too damaged. We are looking into the possibility of providing further group volunteering events in 2018/19.

20 February 2018
Social Events Committee event: Bowling at Kingpin Suite, Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes
The BSc programmes in the Department of Economics have their own student led Social Events Committee. The Committee was established in the Lent term of the 2017/18 academic year to come up with ideas and organise events for BSc students in the department, using funding allocated to the Department’s undergraduate events budget (with guidance from the Undergraduate Programme Manager, Sarah Burton). Their inaugural event involved them hiring the Kingpin Suite at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, where students were treated to a free night of bowling, virtual cricket, karaoke, ping pong, dancing and (limited!) free food and drink.
