Sebahattin Abdurrahman studied Political Science at Ankara University and received his Ph.D. in Law from SOAS, where he was also a Post-Doctoral researcher at the Centre for Ethnic Minority Studies. His research focused on the representation of national minorities in decision-making bodies both on the national and local level in Bulgaria and Greece.  

Following his postdoctoral fellowship, he conducted research on “the Western Thrace Minority Schools in Greece” in which he explored the role of local actors in the schools set up and governed by the minority. This research culminated in a book entitled Western Thrace Minority Schools since the Treaty of Lausanne (in Turkish) which was published by History Charity, Turkey. Alongside the book, his studies have appeared in a range of journals including the Turkish Studies and International Journal on Minority and Group Rights. Before joining the LSE, Sebahattin worked at Middlesex University as an associate lecturer where he taught undergraduate courses from 2019 to 2022.

Currently, he is conducting research on the Turkish diaspora in the UK as part of a project on “the Comparative Analysis of Turkish Diaspora Politics in Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom,” funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). His research aims to explore the relationships between the UK and Turkey, the perception of the growing Turkish population in the UK towards their ‘home country’, and the public approach and discourse in Turkey towards the Turkish diaspora in the UK.
