Sebastian Diessner is a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. He holds a research stipend from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and completed his doctoral studies at the LSE with a thesis examining the political economy of central banking and central bank independence in Europe and Japan.

His research interests include comparative political economy, the politics of macroeconomic policy, transparency and accountability, and quantitative and qualitative methods in the social sciences. He also takes a keen interest in advocacy work, especially towards the European Parliament, and has taught undergraduate classes in the politics of economic policy at the LSE as well as postgraduate classes in comparative political economy at King's College London.

His postdoctoral research focuses on the post-crisis era of policy 'normalization' and study the rising challenges for macroeconomic policy coordination in advanced capitalist democracies.
